On-Line Comedy Writing Course

“YOUR NEXT 20 MINS” IS A 2.5 HOUR CLASS OVER 5 WEEK INTENSIVE ON-LINE COMEDY WRITING COURSE

NEXT COURSE STARTS SATURDAY September 9th and runs over the next four Saturdays (September 16th, 23rd, 30th and Oct 7th)

11.30am- 2pm (UK time)

Spaces are limited and they will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Course fee is £200

In each class we will look at a different aspect of comedy writing; basic joke structure, word play, exaggeration and topical joke writing.

We’ll look at examples of different stand up routines, different types of jokes and different ways of being funny.

There are hand outs on creativity, how to avoid negative voices that stifle productivity and how to write when you’re not feeling funny.

The aim of the class is to find new ways of writing jokes, in a fun, supportive environment. It’s a course suitable for everyone from seasoned professionals to comedy newbies.

I like to keep class sizes to under 20, ideally no more than 15.

Classes are not recorded.

Homework is emailed every day so by the end of the course, not only will you have the tools to develop your set, you’ll have the material too.

Week 1- We look at basic joke structure, how to brainstorm productively and how to get into the mind set to write every day.

Week 2- Word play, puns! How to create the snappy one liners that will get you those delicious retweets.

Week 3- Exaggeration. This class is so powerful, I can only sell it in tiny bags. How to add the pop to your jokes that will get those big laughs.

Week 4 & 5- Topical Joke Writing. Over the last two weeks we look at topical joke writing. Using a fool proof method, we’ll see how anyone with practise can write jokes about the news, to a deadline.
